The beginning of our final work day was another early start. After our breakfast we headed back to Ms. Margaret’s house. We had to finish the exterior of the trailer, and then some walls on the inside. Luckily the purple team was there to help us. We spent a while on touching up where we left off, painting the trim, and making sure the lawn looked nice. It was another long work day, but we got to go to the rope swing again today for a while. We got back to the DDC and started cleaning out our vans, and brushes which took forever. Everyone was really excited for dinner tonight because it was nugget night. Or as we call it, “Nug night”. We went out and finished the corn hole tournament, but sadly George and Grace lost in the championship. Following the tournament we had a talent show. It was really cool seeing people do talents you didn’t know they could do. Some acts were also really funny. Our final team challenge was the spaghetti challenge from the first day. Even though we tied with three other teams, we ended up in third out of the four teams. Our clean up job was to clean the large community room and the kitchen. Now we are getting ready for our bonfire and s’mores. We are all really sad that the week has come to an end, but we all had a great time. All of us agree that we made some awesome memories, and will never forget our amazing group.
Latané : This week I learned that a lot of people are not as fortunate as me. I think that people often take things for granted not knowing what other people are going through. I really enjoyed and learned from this trip and I look forward to doing many more service trips throughout my life.
Caroline: This week I learned that even people who may be less fortunate than I am they live life in a way that I envy. They may not have as much materialistic items but they focus on the things that really matter like: family, friends, and helping others in the community. I also really loved being able to get closer to people I may not have hung out with normally , and this was an amazing eye opening experience!
Grace: This week was very eye opening for me. I learned a lot about communities outside of Richmond. I never realized how much we really have that we take for granted. I know that from now on I will be thinking more about others and not just myself. This week was a lot of fun, and I made a lot of memories while working.
George: I learned that people don’t have nearly as much stuff as us and that we shouldn’t take things for granted. I loved how the people here were so close to each other and even though most people don’t have a lot they rely on the people around them.
Breck: I learned that everyone is different and we need to except our differences and help everyone and all be friends. This week I worked a lot and also played a lot and found the right balance. I also became friends with everyone here that I wasn’t really friends with before.
