Today was our final day in Dungannon, which is a sad occasion for everyone. We started off the day at the old couple's house wrapping up some work. Coach Jason completed the roof, put up a screen, and weed-wacked, while Sydney and Ben finished painting and scrubbing the deck. Milan, Clay, and Nancy cleaned out and tidied up a room inside of the house that we worked in. John, the man that lives with his wife in the house that we worked in, made us think about how fortunate we are for our good health and blessings. This is because he had to have a helper in the house along with his wife to aid him on certain things, such as getting around and using the restroom. After almost finishing the room and painting, we took a quick lunch break where we told riddles and jokes. It only took us about an hour to finish up the house after lunch. In the car, Nancy let each of us pick a song that we wanted to hear and we had to listen the whole song. Our group visited the Dollar General before we headed home to get snacks and such for the ride home. The money that we brought burned holes in our pockets. Once we got back to the DDC, we cleaned out the van, washed off our tools, and straightened up our belongings. We also played games and chatted because we had a bit of time before the other groups arrived home. The delicious dinner that we had consisted of chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, biscuits, and salad. Then we did the marshmallow challenge that we did on the first day to see how much we had improved as a team, and WE WON! Everyone was ecstatic, but the orange, red, and blue teams tied for second (the purple team won). The tie breaker was a series of riddles, and we ended up winning! After that our team cleaned the bunk rooms and we all went out to a bonfire. Overall, it was a successful day.
Sydney: I learned that we are very fortunate and that most of us come from the same area and/or a sheltered, familiar area and it is cool to see the contrast in our upbringings and lives of the locals. I became very close to everyone in the group and we know that we are now family. I am grateful for my team because even though we may not get along with each other all of the time, in the end we all love each other and are there for each other. I also liked everyone's company, not just the red group's. SHOUTOUT TO JASON/THE BALD EAGLE FOR BEING THE BEST LEADER EVER!
Clay: I learned that I really do not miss the technology. It was good because we weren't obsessed with being on our phones or watching TV. We all loved being in the mountains and helping people. I liked that we could get to know the people and possibly find connections.
Ben: I really enjoyed the no-tech week, I felt like I was a lot more productive without technology and had a better experience. I liked how everyone we knew was part of a community of their neighbors and are all friends. I wish it was more like this in Richmond.
Milan: Hi! This is Milan, and the service trip to dungannon was really awesome. I learned that I should never take things for granted, and since I have the ability to help people I should. I saw how tight this community really was, and I hope one day even Richmond can be like that. I really loved the trip, even having no electronics. No electronics really made us bond together. Overall, I enjoyed this trip and would do it again in a second.
Nancy: I learned that I LOVE IT DOWN HERE!!!! it is so fun and all the people are so kind and generous. I loved working for all the people! I loved that Mrs. Mary was willing to give me one of her books because I loved it so much (LORETTA LYNN) I loved that I got so close to my team and that we were able to joke around together. I'm so glad I got to experience this this amazing trip!
