Today we woke up to Wagon Wheel, and to Nancy's great satisfaction, by Old Crow Medicine Show Carry Me Back To Virginia. Our project of the day was to paint the roof and deck of an elderly couple's house, which took up most of our day. The deck was fairly difficult to paint because it was mostly lattice, which we painted white. This was also the hottest day yet, so everyone was extra tired and sweaty. Plus, most of us were well-covered in sticky paint. We took a lunch break for half an hour at a creek near the house we worked on, where we explored and chatted with the grandson of the couple. We learned that Anthony's, the grandson, house had burned down in a fire back in January. Luckily no one was hurt, and he now lives in a trailer on his grandparent's property. After a yummy lunch and refreshing dip in the creek, we got back to work painting. We had about an hour and a half left after lunch, and then we drove to the swimming hole with the rope swing, where we swam after a hot day of work. At the swimming hole, we caught lots of crawfish,or as they are known to the locals, crawdads, and helped put them in a bucket for a man to later take fishing. Our group will have to go back to the couple's house tomorrow to finish up some other work. Once we got back to the DDC, we unloaded the car and took showers. Next we had a delicious dinner of mashed potatoes, green peas, biscuits, and chicken casserole. Also, our team was on set up and clean up duty for the day. That means that we have to set up meals and do the dishes. Following our dinner, we headed to Lay's Hardware where we danced with each other and the locals, as well as ate some snacks and had great fun. Nancy even did an amazing job of singing Silver Springs, and everyone complimented her on her wonderful voice. We then had a drive home full of Loretta Lynn songs, and most of us protested to Nancy's choice of music because that and Conway Twitty were literally all that we listened to. When we arrived home, we blogged, played games, and got a good night's rest for our final work day.
